Category: Geeks r Us
hi all, and I am just posting this because yesterday it was strange how me and a friend got hit on our laptops by this spyware. I'm not sure if he got what I got, but at the same time both of our machines died. I seem to keep repeatedly getting 2 pieces of spyware called outer info and command./ It disables task mgr, so i used end it all and then it changed myt wall paper and then things started crashing. I'm just warning those of you out there to please image your drives, or use really good protection, because all this stuff crashed spybot, though it did manage to runa dn remove like 36 items.
I'm unsure why I keep getting these pieces of spyware so my question to those are well informed is what program can I use to monitor prcesses as they run? I want to be able to allow just about anything or disallow just about anything and i want to do it effectively. i was told Threat fire is a possibility but I need something that will monitor all processes as they run so that I can disallow it before it actually runs.
I had something similar happen to me yesterday.
I started up my laptop as normal, it seemed to be going fine, I updated AVG and exited it as usual.
After this, I tried to start task manager, no luck.
Tried to start services.msc, no luck, gave me an error message.
Shutdown the pc.
A few hours later, I started, asked me to login, and AVGCC crached.
Jaws wouldn't start, or repair correctly.
So I reformatted the machine, to get rid of whatever had hit me.
When I started up the second time, there was no audio, so no Jaws, Narrator, or NVDA.
Unsure if anything hit my copy of Firefox, like post 1, but I asume so, maybe...
I got sighted help to reinstall the OS, no choice, this isn't Leopard where I could've done it on my own, damn you microsoft...
i haven't had anything get any of my machines yet. and it's not microsoft's fault, it's who ever was stupid enough to make something like that.
to post 3, that's nice that you haven't had anything get any of your machines, yet...:)
You missread my last comment, I'd specifically said that I wish that Microsoft's installer process should be similar to Apple's.
Please don't go implying and try to read between the lines next time.
And do back up, all of your stuff every few days, if and when it hits you, and you haven't backed up, you'll be sorry...:)
gotta agree with spike rat. Also, cody, u might wanna try the spybott for blind users. I know that when I used it, it had an option that would monitorfor me, and would tell me if something was being changed, and if I wanted to allow or deny it. Other then that, doesn't AVG8 have spyware protection? O, and spike, I totaly agree that windows should be more like apples installer. It'd make it a whole lot easier.
are we being sharp now or what? lighten up!
yes, avg 8.0 does have spyware. and, to post 1, you might try windows defender. That monitors all processes
I've got stuff on my desk top, but can't do anything about it now till I get back to college, because I have their spywear stuff and their virus stuff, so need to have cis there look at it.
is it spyware?
Ok, I will never ever use windows defender or any windows product. Second of all, rat, I don't care that you haven't had it because you added nothing to help me. To mike I used spybot, but whatever the hell this shit was, it completely destroyed spybot, where some of the database files became corrupt during the scan. I've settled on Avast antivirus and I will be using sygate personal firewall. I updated my hosts file and added over 14000 addresses in there so I will never get some of that shit, I think that was teh first mistake I made.
go with nod 32!
hehe
I'm using good ol version 2.7 of it, the accessible one.
well, nod32 3 isn't so acessible, but it's easy with windoweyes mouse. I don't know, how is it with Jaws or NVDA.
well, use whatever you want. Just making a sugesstion
I've heard if you press f5 in the new nod32 it switches back to the older interface.
HTH!
i've considered trying nod32, but haven't been able to download it completely yet
why not?
I'm not trying to come off as patranising, but if you are repeatidly getting these spywares, perhaps you should try and pin point the problem a bit? - i'm thinking perhaps something that you dl'd had a nasty in it?
I like you use avast, sygate and for a breef time I used the hosts file trick but I found that it slowed down brousing for some reason.
